July 18, 2010 - Lost Coast Highway
We rode the Lost Coast Highway starting from Ferndale, CA. The scenery was great and included roads that curved up and down as well as a number of miles along the Pacific coast that very few people ever see. It was one of the roughest paved roads so far. I suggest if someone is interested in this route that they drive it in a car. No better yet a 4 X 4 pickup. The route runs from Ferndale, CA to Weott, CA
Once we reached Weott, CA we were riding through Humbolt Redwoods State Park. Most people touring this area follow this route to view the huge redwood trees. The road is called The Avenue of the Giants?
Darrel had a tough day. You can ask him about it. Messing up his right foot that afternoon caused some pain. Another Harley rider, Les, gave Darrel some liniment for his foot. The liniment was helpful in reducing the swelling and the pain. Les was from North Alberta, Canada. We exchanged e-mail addresses and hope to hear from him.

July 19, 2010 - Avenue of the Giants
We finished riding the Avenue of the Giants highway and then rode on through Redding. It was one of the warmer days for us as we stopped in Redding, CA, that afternoon. We briefly visited the Harley Davidson in Redding. Not much happening in the dealership that afternoon so we filled our water bottles and headed to Mount Shasta City. Mount Shasta City is at the base of Mount Shasta. That night we stayed at Siskiyou Lakes resort.
July 20, 2010 - Klamath Falls, OR
Breakfast at the Black Bear Restaurant. Prime rib and eggs, $6.99.
Rode to Klamath Falls and cleaned the road grim off the Harleys. Then it was on to Mazama Campground in Crater Lake National Park. The ride that day took us through flat fields of alphalfa and strawberries This appeared to be productive because of the extensive amount of irrigation in that area. We had our first camp fire of the trip at Mazama campground that night.

July 21, 2010 - Crater Lake National Park
Today we circled ¾ the way around Crater Lake taking what seemed like hundreds of pictures. We stopped every couple of miles for every view possible of this beautiful lake. The weather was just about perfect that day. In the afternoon we circled back to camp to take a side trip to the Pinnacles. Take a look at the pictures. These pinnacles are very unusual as they have been formed in a deep canyon as a result of water washing away the softer soil and rock.
This is our last view of Crater Lake as we traveled north on a scenic route and set up camp in Sisters, OR city park.
July 22, 2010 - Last Day at Crater Lake
After finished the ride around the west rim of Crater Lake (of course more pictures) we headed to highway 138 and picked up 58 to Oakridge, OR. On highway 19 (also called North Fork Road by the locals) a winding scenic road which took us on to Rainbow, OR. With plenty of daylight left we took highway 126 on to Sisters, OR. A referral lead us to Sisters City Park and Campground. We stayed at the Sister campground for three nights.
July 23, 2010 - Sisters, OR & Bend, OR - Cascade Harley Davidson
Friday was laundry day in Bend, OR. We visited the Cascade Harley Davidson dealer in Bend. While we were there the HOG Chapter Director answered a few questions and then invited us to attend their HOG summer picnic on Saturday.
After several few other errands in Bend and some shopping we headed back to our campground in Sister.

July 24, 2010 - Cascade HOG Chapter Picnic - Bend, OR
We were guests of the Cascade Harley HOG group in Bend, OR, and were invited to attend their summer ride and picnic. The 110 mile ride started at the dealership through the Cascades Lakes Highway and ended with a picnic at one of the HOG member’s country home south of Bend. We had a great time and quickly became friends.
We hope to get some comments from the HOG friends we made in the Bend, OR area. Don't be shy, go to the "Comments" section and tell us about yourself.
